Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete cast copper alloy heraldic mount or plaque of medieval date. The mount is shield shaped and is decorated on one side with an armorial design consisting of four raised, upward pointing chevrons. Slightly discernable is the red tincture of the enamel of the chevrons and there is also some patchy traces of gilding still survivng. A complete cast copper alloy zoomorphic knife end cap of post-medieval date. The cap is oval in section and is in the form of a stylized animal head, probably representing a dog or similar.
