Mouth intact, but blade and one face lacking. Class A socketed axe decorated with wing-rib design. The bases of the wings continue onto the sides as a slight horizontal moulding.

A fragment of a copper-alloy Roman finger ring.
Only the bezel and shoulders of the ring survive. The bezel has a raised oval cell at its centre. The main inset is of dark blue enamel; four circular depressions have been created within the surface of the blue, arranged in a cross shape. Two of these cells retain red enamel insets, while the other two are empty. A flat-surfaced, octagonal area surrounds the cell, the sides of the shoulders angling inwards, towards what would have been a relatively narrow hoop. A Medieval to Post-Medieval drop or Loop-handle from chafing dish c. 1400-1600 Ad. The handle is an inverted openwork T-shape with filed chamfered edges. The handle has a shouldered attachment-loop, rectangular-sectioned with collared integral rivet. For similar examples see Egan (1998) 175, fig.143, no.487, and Margeson (1993) Norwich Households 78-80, fig.45, nos.489-91. Similar examples can be seen on the database recorded as both chafing dishes NMS-91CC97 and as casket handles,KENT-5E5F87.
The handle is 60.8mm wide, 47.3mm high, 5.2mm thick and weighs 19.47 grams.

Circular copper-alloy disc inlaid with opaque champlevé enamel holding panels of fine millefiori glass, a component of a larger item; it dates somewhere in the period from 670 to 900 AD (and possibly beyond) but may well be 9th century.
Cells to take enamel have been cast into the copper alloy (the champlevé technique), with raised walls between in the shape of a central cross with hollow T-shaped or stepped ends to the arms. Penannular ring having narrow stripes of alternately yellow and whiter gold. The surface is rather worn except for the interior of the hoop where the striping is protected. The hoop tapers to flat terminals. When tested the ring was found to be of the type consisting of a gold covering over a non-precious metal core (see report).

An incomplete post medieval copper alloy composite chatelaine. It consist of three parts; a large hook for attachment to a belt; a chain of 'S' links; and a thick piece of wire with looped ends. From the latter would have hung keys, toilet sets, etc.
The hook is formed of four thick pieces of wire (1.9mm diameter). One piece is bent to form an elongated oval with one larger looped end to form an attachment loop; the piece has then been bent in half and another piece of wire added to the centre to form a three-thick hook. An incomplete Roman cast copper alloy and enamelled seal box and lid of Crummy Type 2 (Crummy 1987, 103) dating from 100-300 AD. Round and rectangular in cross section. At one end are two pierced arms that form a hinge. Attached between the arms is the lug of the lid. There is iron corrosion where the pin would of been located. I have examined a group of coins found in the Ashbourne area, Derbyshire, received at the British Museum in two batches: the following report was amended after receipt of the later material. All but one are official English coins of the Long Cross type, issued between 1247 and 1279. The Long Cross coinage was issued in the name of King Henry III (although it continued to be produce for a few years into the reign of Edward I). Sheet copper alloy bell of medieval date, probably from horse harness. Conical bell with an elongated oval suspension loop with (now broken) aperture of length 2.5mm. The body of the bell was formed of beaten sheet metal of a thickness varying from 0.4mm to 1.3mm, rolled to form a cone with a butted seam up the reverse.
