Lead seal matrix. Cast vesica or lentoid shaped matrix. The back bears the cast depiction of a three petalled lily on a long stalk, with a trefoil on a stalk protruding between the side and central petal of the lis on either side. The front bears an incised central panel depicting a lis (without supplementary emblems) and an indistinct circumferential legend. 2012 T138 Ashbourne area, Derbyshire I have examined a group of coins found in the Ashbourne area, Derbyshire, received at the British Museum in two batches: the following report was amended after receipt of the later material. All but one are official English coins of the Long Cross type, issued between 1247 and 1279. The hoard is composed of five socketed axes, five fragments of Ewart Park swords, two fragments of Carp's Tongue swords from a minimum of three swords and three ingot fragments. The axes, which are all fragmentary, are of the South-Eastern type. Nos. 1-2 show signs of having been deliberately broken for inclusion as scrap metal. Copper alloy possible harness pendant. Cast discoid plate with a suspension loop formed by the curling of a tapered lug. At first glance, the object looks as if made from a small spoon, but there is no sign of the cracking which would probably arise through the flattening of a concave bowl, nor of any rib between the putative stem and bowl. Suggested date: Possibly Medieval, 1250-1450. Cleaned by finder. Length: 35.4mm, Width: 23.5mm, Thickness (plate): 1mm, Weight: 4.95gms.

Cast lead fishing weight, lozenge-shaped in plan, plano-convex in profile and triangular in section, with tapering ends, which have been pinched and perforated with ovoid holes to suspend the sting at either end, around the protruding rectangular knops. This weight was most likely tied into fishing nets, due to its size and shape, and these are commonly found in Cornwall, but are difficult to date.

Small lozenge-shaped decorative mount(?), cast in one piece with central boss in the form of a five-petalled flower within moulded edging. The raised petals of the flower are worn while the gilding on the rest of the front of the object is well-preserved. Projecting tabs at top and bottom of the lozenge are broken; there are also broken-off remains of three other tabs around the edge of the lozenge. Reverse plain.

Silver-gilt hollow cast pinhead with bent silver pin attached. The head is spherical with transverse line dividing it into two hemispheres, each with three filigree circles with a further three circles within each. Small applied knops at centre of most of the large circles, broken off in some. Approx 35 mm in length from head to bent back tip of pin. 16th century. Very similar to dress pin reported in Treasure Annual Report 2000, p.94 no.191, in which the pin is similarly (apparently deliberately) bent.
