A fragment of a ceramic vessel of medieval date. The fragment part of handle which is D-shaped in section with two ridges running vertically along it. The fabric is soft and soapy, buff in colour with a few small inclusions. The external surface of the handle is coated with a mottled olive glaze of a type which was common in the 13th-14th centuries. The handle fragment is 35.1mm long, 47.4mm wide, 22.6mm thick and weighs 29.4g.

A fragment of a cast copper alloy vessel of medieval date. The fragment is part of the body and foot of a probable cooking vessel, possibly a small cauldron or similar. The foot is roughly square in plan with a rounded base which looks as though it may have been heavily hammered to achieve the curve. It tapers upwards to join the body of the vessel though only a small portion of this now remains with the vessel proper having been lost to old, worn breaks. A Medieval to Post-Medieval drop or Loop-handle from chafing dish c. 1400-1600 Ad. The handle is an inverted openwork T-shape with filed chamfered edges. The handle has a shouldered attachment-loop, rectangular-sectioned with collared integral rivet. For similar examples see Egan (1998) 175, fig.143, no.487, and Margeson (1993) Norwich Households 78-80, fig.45, nos.489-91. Similar examples can be seen on the database recorded as both chafing dishes NMS-91CC97 and as casket handles,KENT-5E5F87. The handle is 60.8mm wide, 47.3mm high, 5.2mm thick and weighs 19.47 grams.

A base sherd of a Roman Vectis Ware ceramic vessel (c. 43-c. AD 350 AD). The coarse ware fabric is brownish grey and reddish close to the inner surface. No indication of a burnished surface. The breaks are old. 23.03 x 36.07 x 27.91mm. Weight: 14.10g. 'Vectis ware is hand-made, well finished and relatively hard, being barely scratched with the fingernail. It has moulded decoration on the front face comprising an ovolo frize with filled medallions, and the remains of a circular frieze/panel containing depictions of at least one (female?) person. The sherd measures 61.77mm in width, 30.43mm in height, 9.46mm in thickness and 17.01g in weight. It is of Hadrianic or Antonine date, c.117-193 AD.

An abraded base sherd from an open Roman greyware vessel, possibly a large beaker. The circular pad is 44.6mm in diameter. The sides curve out from foot and have been broken at a point at which they are still curving. Both internally and externally there are concentric lines and ridges from wheel throwing. Just before the break is the beginning of a zone of external decoration in the form of fine diagonal incisions. The fabric is fairly fine and sandy. A thick black paint or tarry coating is splashed on the outside surface of both fragments, and may suggest its use rather than a decorative finish. Suggested date: Modern, 1800-1900.
