A thermal flake that has been worked around the edge. The flake is a potlid and has brown cortex on one side. The other has an off-centre bulb of percussion. The flint is mottled brown in colour. The working is on the cortex side and turns the flake into a scraper or knife.

Brownish yellow flint flake. It is a by-product of the shaping of a larger irregular lump of flint, so that regular shaped pieces can be taken off it to work into tools. The piece removed from the parent nodule (or core) is irregular in outline and is termed a flake. There are no indications that it has been subsequently worked or used once removed from its core.
A feature of this flake is that on the more irregular face it shows evidence of other flakes having been previously removed from different directions on the core before this piece was detached. This suggests that it was not…

Reddish brown flint blade. Probably local to the area where it was found, originating from the glacial clay or perhaps river gravels. It is a by-product of the shaping of a larger irregular lump of flint, so that regular shaped pieces can be taken off it to work into tools. The longer than narrow, parallel sided shape is characterised as a blade.
In some circumstances the blades are then 'retouched' by finely working the edge in a deliberate way to produce tools or sometimes they can be just used as they are without further working, for cutting or scraping. This one does not betra…

A flint multi-purpose tool probably dating from the Mesolithic period. It combines a scraper and a burin. It is a sub-rectangular flake of milky gray tan flint. Retouch on the distal end of the left side forms the burin at the distal left corner. There are removals from both the dorsal and ventral faces here. The distal end of the right edge has been retouch with fine abrupt removals from the ventral face to form a scraping edge. There is also evidence of platform preparation.

A flint implement of probable Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic date (6500 BC-2150 BC).
This implement is sub-triangular in cross-section and tapers to a point. It seems to have been made from part of a core from which long blades have been removed. The arrisis are sharp and one has irregular flake removals along most of its length.
It is light brown, shiny and semi-translucent.
42.25 x 10.76 x 7.07mm. Weight: 2.95g.

A flint flake probably used during the later Neolithic to Early Bronze Age (2500 BC-1500 BC). It has been retouched and utilised as a tool, probably a scraper. About 1/3 of the dorsal face is covered in orange cortex; the flint has retouch at the right distal end on the dorsal face (along the edge of the cortex) and invasive retouch at the proximal end. Much of the remaining brown flint on the dorsal face is patinated white. The ventral surface of the flake has some cortex remaining and some white patination at the proximal end. The flint itself is of a medium to light brown colour. R…

A blade like flint flake that is Mesolithic in date. The flake is sub rectangular with retouch on one face. The object is brown/black in colour and weighs 1.8g. The flake measures 31.62mm in length, 12.16mm in width and 3.52mm in thickness. This is the kind of flake that could have been knapped to produce microlith blades, hence the Mesolithic date.

Two fragments of flint that probably date to the Mesolithic period. The flint fragments have come from a core that was used to produce blades. This is evident from a ridge down one side of the fragment. One of the fragments is white/speckled blue in colour, weighing 2.5g and measuring 33.76mm in length and 13.70mm in width. There is some evidence of recent plough marks around the perimeter. The other fragment is blue in colour, weighing 1.6g and measuring 20.87mm in length and 12.51mm in width. There is evidence of recent breaks around the perimeter of the fragment.
