Incomplete, Post Medieval flat openwork strap mount. Remains of iron rivets, one through a terminal lobe, on both sides of trefoil aperture. One long edge, broken across a series of apertures, shows that the rivets are not set centrally. The trefoil is close to that in a hooked mount from south-west Wiltshire (Read 2001 no. 356). Probably too flimsy to have formed part of a sword belt. >40 x >26mm. 17th century.

Several examples of these artefacts have been found in excavations in London, mostly in layers dating from the late 13th to late 14th centuries AD (Egan and Pritchard 1991; 232-235). It is thought that their purpose was to hold down the free…

A cast copper-alloy medieval strap-slide with a pair of short pointed internal projections (c. 2.8mm in length). It is trapezoidal in shape with rounded corners. The rounded outer edge is thicker, at 3.05mm, than the inner edge, at 2.0mm. A similar example can be found illustrated in Egan and Pritchard (1991, 234; ref. 1262). The published example came from a later 14th-century context. It is not quite as well-made as this object; the inner 'sub-loop' is better defined, by moulded side protrusions before a constriction as the outer 'sub-loop' begins.

A copper alloy belt hook with a flat decorative panel at the front and two strips folded over onto the reverse. The lower of these would have hung below the strap to form a loop (as in a sword-belt fitting). The panel has straight upper and lower edges defined by a horizontal ridge with incised diagonal lines. The central part has opposing curved indentations above and below a wider section with three lobes on each side edge. This object can be compared to the central part of the fitting BUC-EB0E13 recorded on this database. It lacks the rectangular loop in this and the published para…
