Roman copper alloy bow brooch, probably an Aesica variant, 31mm long, 14mm wide and 3mm thick. The object is in fair condition and weighs 5.15grams. The brooch is roughly rectangular in form and section. It has a wide upper edge which is slightly rounded on the front to hold the spring casing. From the centre of this upper edge projects a narrow strip which forms an arch and re-joins the main body at the base of the spring casing. Below this the bow has a further slightly curved surface which dips about half way down. The lower part of the brooch is flat and plain and its reverse house…

The brooch has a rectangular head-plate with rounded corners to which has a incised border of double V-shaped stamps, with small broken annulets at the apex of each 'pyramid'. The …

Head and upper part of the bow of a devolved T-shaped brooch of local type with a flat expanded head plate. The head plate is now damaged with most of the outer edge missing to very corroded breaks but was probably fan shaped (D-shaped) . Along the straight lower edge of the plate is a cylinder with a central slot. The cylinder held the bar on which the pin hinged, pivoting in the slot. One end is damaged and it is now 23.9mm long. There is iron corrosion visible in the slot and the ends of the cylindrical wings suggesting the hinge was made of iron. The pin is missing. The bow extend…
