A spherical hollow iron pommel from a large medieval sword, such as a broad sword. The pommel comprises a hollow ball with an opening to take the tang and two smaller openings to take a fitting by which means the tang was secured in place. The pommel is bound with six thin copper alloy bands which radiate from the smaller openings. There also appears to be a thin copper alloy wire arranged around the vertical axis. A very similar example comes from Oxfordshire (BERK-65B4A2). A date range for both in the region of c1200-1400 seems reasonable.

A complete forged, wrought iron horse shoe probably dating to the Post-Medieval period. The object is U-shaped in plan and the heals are wide apart. The nail holes appear to be sub-rectangular however they are obscured by corrosion. The web is uneven being wider on once half of the object than the other. At its widest point the web measures 36.38mm. The entire object shows signs of extensive post-depositional corrosion.

An incomplete wrought iron object, of probable Late Post Medieval to Modern dating (1700 - 1900 AD), of uncertain use and function. The object consists of a rectangular sectioned tang, with an incomplete sheet of iron (now triangular in shape) riveted to the end with two circular rivets. It measures 108.08mm in length. 36.82mm wide and 9.20mm thick. It weighs 33.2 grams.

An almost complete iron patten dating from the Post Medieval period. The hoop is made from a band of iron standing on its side and bent into an oval loop. Although now corroded, and with large amounts of ferrous oxide adhering to it in the form of a light brown crust, the key features of the patten are still discernible. Pair of simple iron tongs for lead shot with plain handles. Near the cross-over of the arms is stamped the number '48'. Unsure what this relates to. More utilitarian and longer than 17th and 18th century known examples, therefore suggest an 18th to 19th century date. Incomplete socketed Medieval iron arrowhead with small delicate barbs (one barb missing) and a head that tapers equally to a point. These arrowheads may have been used for hunting or warfare, and date to the medieval period. Incomplete socketed Medieval iron arrowhead, tanged broadhead type with one barb missing. These objects were used primarily between AD 1066-1400, after which the styles generally changed to deal with advances in armour. However arrowheads of all shapes and sizes were in use during the medieval period and without robust archaeological evidence it is not possible to refine the dating as yet. Larger broadhead arrows were likely to be used for hunting rather than warfare, the arrows for which tended to be smaller and lighter with shorter barbs or were bodkins (Borg 1991:79).

A small iron hand-bell plated with copper-alloy using the 'fusion-plating process' (Bourke 1980; 1983). The bell is corroded but appears to be made from a single piece of iron that has been folded in two; the seam, which is located to the side, is now open and was presumably once riveted together. The bell has pulled shoulders, which results in a very narrow apex. In plan the bell is sub-oval. A damaged iron knife. The knife has a tapering integral tang. The back of the tang is flush with the back of the blade. The blade edge is missing, but the shape is elongated and the tip is missing. Iron Stud. Wrought Iron stud with a broad straight-sided domed head and a short pointed shank of rectangular section. The good condition should probably argue a relatively recent date. This object would be apt to the reinforcement of a hefty door; the short shank does not suggest a role in the joining of major structural elements, which would more usually be achieved by carpentry. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1800. Length (overall): 53.6mm, Width (head): 55mm by 59mm, Weight: circa 245gms.
