Rim sherd of a thin walled Severn Valley Ware earthenware dating to the late Roman period (150 – 410 AD). This sherd is worn and probably comes from the rim of either a storage jar or cooking pot. The fabric is relatively soft and slightly powdery with a number of angular and sub angular quartz (white and rose coloured), grit, and brown coloured ironstone inclusions. Rim sherd of a thin walled (thick rimmed) Midlands Purple Ware pottery vessel, probably a jug or storage jar of post medieval date (1600 – 1700). This sherd is worn and probably comes from the rim of either a storage jar or cooking pot. The fabric of the sherds is a very hard earthenware with a number of small rounded and sub-angular grit, quartz, and broken burnt pottery inclusions. Spindle whorl made from a piece of coarse-ware pottery or tile of Roman date (50-450 AD). The spindle whorl is sub-circular in plan, its diameter measures 33.4mm and is 10.9mm thick. There is a circular hole pierced through the whorl and this is set slightly off centre. The diameter of the hole measures 7.1mm. The whorl weighs 15.42 grams.
The whorl is undecorated and the edges are worn. The fabric of the pottery is relatively hard earthenware with a number of small angular and sub-angular grit ironstone and quartz inclusions. The pottery / spindle whorl is a mid orange colour. I…

Handle from a burnished vessel (Black Burnished Ware) probably a tankard dating from the Roman period (50-250 AD). The fabric is a mid grey - black colour with a number of small frequent rounded and angular grit, quartz and ‘shale like’ inclusions. The outer and inner surfaces of the sherd are a mid-dark brown / black colour. There is no glaze present. The diameter of the pot cannot be estimated due to the smallness of the sherd. Three decorated sherds of Samian type Roman pottery probably dating to the 2nd century AD (120 - 220 AD). All three sherds are made of the same fabric; however the decoration on each is different suggesting that they are from three different vessels. The fabric of each is a hard and fine grained with mica limestone and black iron ore inclusions. The fabric is assessed by observation of worn rather than fresh breaks. Incomplete ceramic vessel that contained part of plough dispersed hoard of Late Iron Age, Durotrigan, base silver staters (100 BC - AD 43). See PAS record IOW-F44A12. Treasure case no. BM2005 T443. Total weight of sherds 218.97g.(includes some soil adhering to the surfaces).
This incomplete part of the vessel consists of base and lower body sherds (15 sherds in total).
