Incomplete ceramic vessel that contained part of plough dispersed hoard of Late Iron Age, Durotrigan, base silver staters (100 BC - AD 43). See PAS record IOW-F44A12. Treasure case no. BM2005 T443. Total weight of sherds 218.97g.(includes some soil adhering to the surfaces). This incomplete part of the vessel consists of base and lower body sherds (15 sherds in total). Rim sherd of a thick walled platter or bowl probably dating from the post medieval period (1550-1650). The sherd is irregular in plan and curved in profile. The fabric is a hard fired earthen ware with a number of small angular and sub-angular grit, sand and quartz inclusions. The fabric colour is two-tone, the outer a mid orange brown and the inner a mid grey. This two-tone effect has been caused by low temperatures within the kiln and is typical of this type of post medieval pottery. Glazed fragment from a thick walled earthen ware vessel probably a jug or tankard of probable late medieval or post medieval date (1400-1600). This sherd is from the upper half of the handle and consists of the junction between the body of the jug and the handle. The sherd is irregular in plan and cross section. The fabric is relatively hard with a number of rounded and sub-angular quartz, sand, and broken pottery (temper) inclusions. The rim extends outwards from the wall of the vessel at an angle of ninety degrees, creating a flat area with the possible trace of a lid seat. The sides are angled at approximately forty-five degrees. The fabric is mid grey in section and has frequent small stone inclusions. The outer surface is light orange. The sherd is heavily abraded and measures 26.3mm long by 14.4mm wide and 7mm thick. It weighs 3.90g.

The rim juts out from the wall of the vessel at an angle of ninety degrees and there is a clear join at the point underneath where the two meet. There is only a remnant of the wall of the pot. The fabric is mid grey and has frequent small stone inclusions. The sherd is abraded and measures 42.2mm long by 23.3mm wide. It weighs 14.86g.

The base is flat and the wall extends upwards at an angle of approximately forty five degrees. The fabric is mid grey in section, has orange surfaces, and contains moderate medium-sized grog inclusions. The sherd measures 57.8mm long by 41.6mm wide and 12.9mm thick. It weighs 32.61g.

A Roman pottery body sherd (43-410AD). The sherd is very abraded and the majority of the surface has worn away. The fabric is orange on the exterior and buff on the interior, with the change in colour occurring midway through the fabric. There are also the remains of a dark buff slip on the exterior. Frequent grit, quartz and grog inclusions, this sherd is possibly from a mortarium although the fabric is fairly soft. Weight: 14.42g.

A late Iron Age to early Roman Channel Rimmed jar. The vessel is almost complete, missing only its base and some rim and body sherds. The vessel fabris is of an orange colour with dark grey to black colouration around the rim. It is tempered with frequent large shell and grog inclusions. The vessel is 153 mm in diameter at its opening and 107 mm in diameter above its missing base. It stands 168 mm tall.
