Roman coin: prpbable sestertius of Maximus (AD 235-8), dating to AD 235-6 (Reece Period 11), PIETAS AVG S C, Priestly Implements. Mint of Rome. RIC IV, pt 2, p. p. 155, cf. no. 6; BMC VI, p. 232, cf. nos. 119-20. Although the coin is light at 14.3g, it has had circumferential loss. Furthermore, dupondii appear to be incredibly rare for Maximus - there are none in the BM collection.

Eight cut copper alloy sesterii. Each piece represents approximately one quarter of the original coin. All fragments are very worn and have well patinated ancient breaks. Only one coin bears any detail: the legend surrounding is very worn but reads ]?A..?S..[. Inside the legend is the tip of the bow from the laureate crown.
