An incomplete, iron strip brooch of Late Iron Age - Early Roman date. The top of the brooch rolls back to form a cylinder which appears to have a slot in the centre at the rear for the pin, most of which remains. The whole of the artefact is heavily encrusted with corrosion obscuring any detail. The bow is truncated resulting in the loss of the catchplate. Suggested date 25 - 60AD. Similar to PAS record GLO-205D77.

A large, incomplete, iron, bow brooch. The circular section bow is complete and still retains half of the 4 coiled spring with its internal chord passing under the bow. It gradually tapers in and at the foot it is clear that the catchplate was framed, perforated with probably a triangular shaped hole. This item has been conserved with clear varnish. Suggested date 1st century BC.

Simple, iron wire bow brooch. Now broken into three pieces, the bow, most of the pin and the small solid catchplate are present. The bow has a flat oval section with a near right angled bend at the top. This is likely to be a Late Iron Age La Tene III, simple one-piece, Nauheim Derivative bow brooch. The item has been conserved with clear varnish.

Three irregular fragments of iron bloomery waste (slag) or fuel ash, of Iron Age to Late Medieval dating (800 BC to AD 1600). All three fragments are light for their size, which would suggest that minimal iron metal is present within the matrix. All have a honeycomb structure, formed of solidified air bubbles. The measurements are as follows: 1: Length: 24.53 mm. Width: 23.04 mm. Thickness: 15.25 mm. Weight: 3.8 g. 2: Length: 50.57 mm. Width; 31.64 mm. Thickness: 21.75 mm. Weight: 10.1 g. 3: Length: 31.00 mm. Width: 25.66 mm. Thickness: 19.56 mm. Weight: 11.7 g. All together t…

Probable late Iron Age to early Roman iron and copper alloy linch pin head that is heavily corroded and concreted. Iron spearhead. Wrought iron with a butted seam straight socket and a flat leaf shaped blade with shoulders set at circa 45 degrees to the socket; the thickness of the blade diminishes rapidly from where it joins the socket, and it is only circa 3mm thick at its surviving end. Heavily corroded and lightly bent. The mass indicates almost all metal formerly present has been lost, and what remains is mainly rust. The form of the object appears to resemble a spearhead, and the finder kindly observes that it is close to that of Late Iron Age examples on display at the North Lincolnshi…

Possibly a wrought iron socketed sickle fragment dating from the Earliest Iron Age, that is c. 800-600BC. It would have been part of the Early Iron Age Llyn Fawr metalwork assemblage and contemporary with early iron spearheads, wrought iron socketed axes, copper-alloy socketed axes of Sompting and related types and Hallstatt razors. The fragment is very worn and the surface on both obverse and reverse is pitted and flaky and in need of conservation. The edges of the blade are jagged and the original line is difficult to ascertain. The artefact has a strong midrib along its entire lengt…
