Possibly an incomplete, Roman, copper alloy stylus or cosmetic applicator. The object has a circular-sectioned shaft which curves and has been broken off, losing the pointed end. The bend may be post depositional damage or may be part of its design to sit comfortably in the hand. At its blunt end, the shaft starts to flare into a paddle-like terminal. This terminal is thinner than the shaft, has flat surfaces and is decorated with 4 large ring and dots and one edge with 4 smaller circles. The object measures 61.3mm long, up to 6.8mm wide and 2.5mm thick (shaft) and 1.0mm spatula end. …

The 48.1mm pin is quite rounded at one end and, although also blunt at the other, it is clear that it was broken in antiquity. The shaft has a circular section and an even, pale green patina. It is shiny and smooth to the touch. It could possibly be a brooch pin or a hairpin. Found alongside it was a semi-circular loop of copper alloy with a flattened oval section. Both ends are broken and it has the same even, pale green patina and smooth, shiny surface texture. There may be no connection between the two items and the loop may have formed a suspension loop from a different artefact.
