A cast copper alloy Roman brooch. The brooch is sub-circular in plan as the edges are heavily abraded, there is only a small area of the original edge, suggesting the brooch was circular in plan. In profile the brooch is a conical with a flattened tip. This surface has a shallow circular cell with a central perforation. Through this perforation there is a copper alloy stud which is bent over. A cast copper alloy circular harness fitting: stud and mount. The device on the outer face of the mount is a lion rampant, crowned. In the field around the lion there are patches of gilding. The edges of the mount is decorated with oblique grooves. The reverse of the mount has an integral thick circular sectioned stud which has a flattened terminal where it has been fixed onto leather. The mount measures 42.29mm diameter, 11.24mm thick and weighs 2.72g. The mount is a harness fitting, or possibly a badge, dating to the Medieval period.
