A cast lead spindle whorl of Roman or later date. It is biconvex in form with flattened top and bottom surfaces and has an off-centred circular perforation. There are no signs of decoration. It measures 23.76mm in diameter, 7.67mm in height/thickness, and weighs 21.42g. This weight may date as early as the Roman period but is perhaps more likely to be Medieval or later in date.

The upper face is decorated with three raised concentric circles around a central pellet. It is 36.93mm in diameter, 5.10mm thick and weighs 46.75 grams, 1.649 ounces. Biggs, N. & Withers, P. Lead Weights: The David Rogers Collection English Weights Series - 6 Llanfyllin, Powys, p.25, catalogue several similar weights with concentric circles which mostly cluster around 2 ounces in weight. They suggest these types may be Medieval in date although it is …

The weight is of considerable size having a thickness of 4.5mm, diameter of 63.3mm and weighs 96.34 grams (3.39 ozs or 1486.6 grains). The front and rear faces differ in that both have turned circles around a central hollow point; all of these concentric circles are regular and well formed. The front face has two groups of two rings, one group positioned near the centre and the outer pair near the edge; between the two a single stamped mark is present. This consists of a crowned h. A cast copper-alloy sub-discoidal weight. The weight has tapering sides with a narrower base than top. The sides and base are plain but the top has a central circular indent surrounded by an irregular circle of 7 ring-and-dot punch marks. It is 10.9 mm in diameter, 4.9 mm thick and weighs 2.91 grams. A simple weight like this is hard to date with complete certainly but the style with the circular indent and ring-and-dot motif appears similar to many Medieval to post-Medieval cup weights. It has been suggested that cup weights date from 12th-14th century and continue in use into the…

Drop shaped circular sectioned cast lead weight with a circular sectioned hole running from the top to the bottom, removing the point of the drop. Lead weights were easily cast at home for a variety of uses and plain examples are therefore hard to date more precisely than Roman - Post Medieval. It is 31.9mm by 30.7mm at the widest point (about a quarter of the way up), 14.3mm by 15.3 at the top, 45.7mm tall and weighs 182 grams, the hole is 9.5mm in diameter.

Thick circular lead weight, a maximum of 24.94mm in diameter and 14.06mm thick. One face is slightly flatter than the other; the other face is slightly rounded. In the centre is a circular perforation c.11.07mm in diameter. It weighs 42.66g (1.50oz). Assigning a date and function to simple weights such as this one is not easy, but lead weights do seem to have been most common in the medieval and post-medieval periods. For similar examples see CAM-5CCA61 and CAM-5D0962.
