A cast copper-alloy object, probably a perfume flask or bottle of Medieval or later date. It is in two joining fragments due to post-depositional damage. The vessel is hollow cast and in the form of a parrot, with remains of a blackened substance probably resultant from the casting process visible in the hollow tail end. The parrot has relatively neat decoration highlighetd through incised lines and punched dots. Its head is oval shaped in form with projecting sub-triangular crest with incised central grooves and notched edges representing feathers. It has a circular eye with semi-c…

PAS-RC07 Grid F7 Four fragments of possible ceramic building material. The fragments are relatively robust and it is possible that they could be large sherds from Severn Valley vessels: however from their shape, it is more likely that they are fired remnants of rough brick or tile. The fabric of the fragments is very similar to Severn Valley pottery dating from the Roman period (100-400 AD). However such a tight date cannot be suggested for these as this form of pottery is very local - and therefore the clay source would have been used throughout the historic perio…

Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Northamptonshire

Incomplete Roman copper-alloy buckle pin, 26mm long, 23mm wide and 3mm deep. The object consists of a sub-rectangular sectioned bar which has two curved arms protruding from the centre, one from each side . Where the four arms meet there is a recessed circle with two concentric raised circles inside; this could alternatively be described as a ring-and-dot motif with two grooved concentric circles around a central dot. The other two arms are straight when seen from above. One thickens markedly and is decorated with a a single incised transverse line near the (broken) edge. The other…
