A cast lead alloy Post-medieval token or tally, possibly used for reckoning concerning agriculture of livestock. The token is bifacial; one face has the Initials IHI, or an H flanked by two vertical lines, while the reverse has a four-lined design, reminiscent of a 'stick' person or anthropomorphic representation with long limbs. It may also be a crude 'wheel' design sometimes seen on tokens of this period.

Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A fragment of a cast copper alloy Poast-medieval spur. The reamining fragment conists of part of the spur arm and terminal. The terminal is formed of a double loop, or figure of eight through which the attachments and buckles for the securing straps would have passed. The spur arm is moulded with a meandering raised midrib with uneven cells both above and below; the spur arm has a planoconvex section. This would have been part of a post-medieval rowel spur and is likelt to date from the later 16th to 18th century AD.

A contemporary copy of a quarter guinea of George III (AD 1760-1820), minted in c. AD 1762. The coin is made of silver and would have been gold plated, although none of this now survives. Quarter guineas were only minted in AD 1762, so the copies must date either to this exact year or soon after. This example may have been struck by hand rather than being milled as it is slightly irregular and thinner than original examples.

A Post-medieval lead token with a pattern of almost palm-like fronds, or a series of "Cs" in varying sizes, two on each side and back-to-back with a central upright. The reverse has an indistinct pattern and faint lettering around one edge but this is illegible. Lead tokens are difficult to date precisely and could be Medieval to Post Medieval in date (1250-1800 AD). The majority of lead tokens are thought to date to the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, however this example, with the lettering, suggests a 16th or 17th century date.
