Cast copper alloy spectacle or double-loop buckle frame with bevelled inside edge and flat back so that it is semi-circular in section. The pin bar is also bevelled on both sides and therefore narrowed, but it is flush with the frame with a recessed groove at either end where it meets the frame. The frame is decorated with oblique lines which change angle as they move around each loop, creating a rope effect. The pin is missing but the original surface remains, although with some scratches and corrosion.
Whithead (1996) illustrates similar spectacle buckles with oblique engraved lin…

The remains consist of a buckle frame measuring 21.29mm long, 17.70mm wide, 2.05 mm thick and weighing 1.47 grams. Neither surface has further decoration and the reverse surface is flat. A Medieval copper-alloy single-loop buckle with integral plate and hook.
The frame is sub-oval and has steeply sloping surfaces. The plate is integrally cast and is of sub-rectangular plan, tapering towards the distal end, where it extends into a forward-facing hook. A hole at the centre of the frame end of the plate represents the point at which the now-missing pin would have been attached. A pair of angled ridges flank this hole, their points projecting beyond the straight edges of the plate. The majority of the plate has a convex upper surface, the only exception to this being a…
