Seven Roman coins, discovered between December 2011 and December 2012 in a small area of a field. The group comprises one gold solidus and six siliquae. Most of the siliquae are clipped to a lesser or greater extent. Siliquae are rare as stray finds and this group, together with the gold solidus, clearly represent a dispersed hoard of Late Roman gold and silver. The silver coins have seen some wear and the fact that most are quite heavily clipped would seem to place the date of deposition a few years into the fifth century, probably circa 410. A complete cast copper-alloy flanged axehead of early Bronze Age date. It has a thin, rounded butt, with almost straight sides before expanding to a flared blade. The axe thins smoothly from the centre to the blade at one end and butt at the other, with raised flanges on either side on both faces which are now damaged and worn, giving an H-shaped section. One flange is more pronounced than the other. No stop bevel is apparent and there is no decoration. Lower part of heart- or scrotum-shaped strap-end in rather abraded condition, with three ring-and-dots on front face. There is an ancient break across the split end. The dimensions are: width 45.5 mm, length >33.5 mm, thickness 1.5 - 3.5 mm. Compare examples in Appels and Laycock (2007) pp.248-9. Dates to the 4th century, but was perhaps in use later.

Lead alloy disc brooch with an incomplete integral pin on reverse. Within a circular border of ring-and-dot in low relief there lies a bearded long-haired bust, which is the image of Jesus that appeared on a cloth used by St Veronica to wipe His face on His way to Calvary. Some details are obscured by concreted adherent soil. Such brooches were known as vernicles or veronicas. The brooch diameter is 21 mm and it dates to the 14th - 15th century.

Crescent-type Aesica brooch, spring, pin, part of catchplate and one corner of foot missing, in quite fresh condition despite some pock marking especially on reverse. The method of manufacture is cast-in-one. Single oblique groove on both wings, and grooves on bow, crescent and foot. The "crescent" is D-shaped with a very sharp and straight upper edge. Its wingspan is 17.5 mm and its length is 33 mm. Dates to the mid 1st century.

Neolithic flint pick. Dimensions 416 x 66 x 49mm. Brown staining over dark grey / black flint. Rhombic section with sharp ridge on one face, largely formed by a natural cleavage plane (ancient frost fracture), the other face flaked entirely with a more rounded medial ridge. The dark brown patination suggests a probable peaty deposition, there is a trace of concretion on one face, most likely an accumulation of iron oxides and grit.
