A sherd of Alice Holt/Farnham grey ware. Pale buff-grey reduced fabric with abundant, well sorted quartz sand temper. The exterior surface dark grey to silvery grey and has several horizontal and diagonal burnish lines. A body sherd from a jar. The Alice Holt/Farnham industry was active from the 1st to 4th centuries, but the slightly metallic finish suggests this may be the later product of the industry (i.e. after c AD 200 - 250) It is hard fired and wheelthrown. A foot, the catchplate and part of the bow of a Roman copper alloy bow brooch. The bow is sub oval in cross section, is undecorated and tapers towards the foot. The catchplate survives on the reverse of the foot, the catchplate is broadly triangular in plan with a central perforation. The artefact is 27.55mm long, 10.95mm wide, 2.75mm thick and weighs 1.88 grams.

An incomplete bent copper-alloy Iron Age/Roman La Tène III, Nauheim derivative brooch dating to the 1st century AD. The spring is incomplete, two coils survive and have been bent out of shape, the remainder of the spring and the pin are missing. The solid, plain bow is rectangular in cross-section. It rises up from the head before being bent inwards on itself c.15mm along its length. The bow has a max width of 3.85mm and tapers towards the foot which is 1.05mm wide. The catchplate survives and has been bent.

STRAND which operated in London from c.1794-1812. The letters within the seven-pointed star of the Order of the Garter, surmounted by a crown, appear to be D G which stands for Dragoon Guards, with an X above them which would stand for the 10th Regiment which became the Prince of Wales' Own Hussars in 1806. An incomplete Late Iron Age/ early Roman (AD 20-80) copper- alloy Colchester one-piece brooch missing a section of the catchplate and part of the spring. The wings are flat and rectangular. No decoration is visible on the bow which tapers towards the tip. Behind the wings is a spring which consists of six coils, part of the tapering pin survives. The catchplate has been bent slightly, it is broadly triangular in plan and has two broadly D shaped perforations adjacent to the foot.

An incomplete copper-alloy Roman (AD 70-110) Polden Hill type brooch of the Western Group. The wingspan is 30.95mm with two decorative grooves at either end. The side lugs are circular and pierced to hold an intact copper alloy axis bar, about which are eleven spring coils. The arrowhead has been knapped from a grey-brown flint into a leaf-shape of very find quality, related as much to the quality of flint as the skill of the knapper. A fragment of a cast, copper-alloy beaded torc of late Iron Age-Roman date, c. 1-200. The fragment consists of a length of the torc with 5 beads of increasing size, from the first bead from the band/bar to the largest, where a break is found in the collar between beads. The first bead is oblong, while the 5th bead is circular, with a gradual transition in the shape of the beads from the 1st to the 5th, such that the 2nd and 3rd beads are somewhat wedge-shaped in profile to accommodate the curvature of the torc. A fragment of an early Roman copper alloy bracelet dating from the 1st-2nd century AD. The fragment represents a short rectangular strip of thin copper alloy, bent, and cracked at its mid point. The upper surface is decorated with two parallel lines of pin-point indentations. The surface of the metal is in good condition with a green patina. The fragment is 31.0mm long, 13.0mm wide, 0.8mm thick and weighs 2.3g. Examples of similar bracelet fragments are known from Colchester (Crummy 1983, 37, nos. 1586, 1587, fig. 40). on the Database , CAMHER-86CC72, and CAM-EF43C6.

The bow tapers very narrowly and sharply from the head to a point.

A cast copper-alloy headstud brooch, c. 69-200. The brooch is largely complete, missing only the lower half of the pin. The brooch has broad, flat-faced arms with interlocking triangular cells (like a backgammon board) retaing redand blue enamel. The reverse of the arms have a cast integral cylinder taking the axel and hinged-pin. Atop the head is a short, central 'fin' placed above a concave depression for the missing headstud. The bowtapers from the top to the foot, marked by a small disc. The catchpalte emerged from the base of the bow and retains the hooked pin rest.

A copper-alloy Roman radiate or nummus, probably dating from the 3rd-4th centuries AD. The reverse type is illegible. Mint unknown. A positive identification is impossible for this coin due to its poor condition and lack of remaining detail; both legends are missing. It is possible that this is a contemporary 'barbarous' copy of a radiate coin. This suggestion is based upon the condition of the coin and the rough shape of the bust on the obverse.
