A sherd of Alice Holt/Farnham grey ware. Pale buff-grey reduced fabric with abundant, well sorted quartz sand temper. The exterior surface dark grey to silvery grey and has several horizontal and diagonal burnish lines. A body sherd from a jar. The Alice Holt/Farnham industry was active from the 1st to 4th centuries, but the slightly metallic finish suggests this may be the later product of the industry (i.e. after c AD 200 - 250) It is hard fired and wheelthrown. A ceramic vessel fragment; a rim sherd of Post Medieval pottery. The fabric is hard and fine in texture. It is a mottled dark grey and orange colour with few visible inclsuions. The inner face and over the rim is glazed with a thick dark brown glaze which is blistered and discoloured to black. This may be a poorly fired version of a Post medieval black ware. The rim is simply angled outwards and the piece is too small to estimate the rim diameter.The sherd is 34.56mm long, 23.41mm wide and 7.87mm thick. It weighs 9.87gm.

Two ceramic vessel fragments; wall sherds of probably Post Medieval pottery. The fabric is hard and fine in texture, though abraded. It is a dark grey with few visible inclusions, but the smaller piece is less reduced and is buff coloured. The outer surfaces of the large piece and all faces of the small piece are glazed in a crazed uniform yellow green colour. The smaller piece is a rim sherd with a simple out turned rim, but is too small to estimate the rim diameter.

It is a dark red with few, very small white and dark inclusions (perhaps grog?). the surface are glazed in a dark rich lustrous brown, over fired to dark grey on the smaller piece. The fabric is similar to Wrenthorpe Ware and other black wares.

The inclusions are of grit, mainly quartz and grey pieces (perhaps stone). There are slight traces of glaze on both faces of the larger sherd. It is clear, or pale yellow, and has decayed to a brown sparkled layer on the outer face. The larger sherd is 50mm long, 35.48mm wide and 13.15mm thick. 30.6g.

Seventeen sherds of Roman grayware including 4 rim sherds and one base sherd. The sherds range in colour from buff through pale grey to dark grey and some are not entirely reduced. They all have a slightly irregular texture and many of the breaks are abraded. They are fairly soft and have mainly quartz inclusions. The side forms an angle of approximately 60 degrees with the base and has rilling on its inner face, providing evidence of wheel throwing.
