A copper-alloy Roman As of Claudius (41-54 AD). of uncertain Claudian date, listed as c. AD 41-50 in RIC I, p127. Obverse depicts bare head facing left; legend illegible. The reverse depicts Minerva right, helmeted and draped with right arm hurling javelin, round shield on left arm. S-C to left and right of central depiction. Reece Period 2. Cf. A corroded Roman copper alloy As of Claudius I dating to c.41 to 54 AD. Minerva reverse (Reese Issue period 2; cf. RIC I 100). It has a cracked circumference and measures 24.3mm (diameter) x 2.3mm (thickness) and weighs 5.09g. Robert Kenyon, following on from the work by the French scholars P-A. Besombes and M.
