A cast lead alloy (probably) late medieval or more probably a post-medieval (1450-1800) scabbard chape from a dagger. The chape is formed from a mid grey coloured metal alloy - most probably a lead alloy that seems to have been cast rather than formed from a single sheet of metal. It is broadly rectangular in plan with a tapered U shaped terminal; it is oval in cross section, however, it may have originally been sub-rectangular with rounded corners, having since been flattened / crushed and abraded in the ploughsoil. An incomplete copper alloy cruciform brooch dating from the 6th century. The headplate is missing and the break is well patinated. The bow has faceted corners and is decorated by a central vertical row of short transverse punched lines within a slight recess. There are similar lines on the facets too. The area beneath the bow is divided into two by a transverse row of punched vertical lines. The upper area is rectangular and the lower is sub-rectangular, tapering towards the foot. Fragment (approximately half) of a copper alloy annular brooch in the form of two large felines, perhaps panthers or leopards, facing one another. The animal is sprawled on the ground with forelegs stretched out to the front and back legs to the rear. the tail, with a heavy end, is curled over the middle section of the body. The left forepaw is missing as are the lower parts of the rear legs, length 48.5mm, weight 18.47g.
