Pottery base sherd from a cup. Slipware. A hard dull red fabric with splashed internal and external metallic glaze with an external trail of white slip. The vessel, perhaps a cup, had an estimated diameter of 120mm, with a flat base and a stepped foot. The body is corrugated; lightly on the middle part of the outside, and more prominently within. The area bearing white slip also bears crude knife-cut vertical slashes. The impression is of an individualistic piece. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1650-1700. Weight: 61.87gms.

Pottery rim sherd, perhaps from dish or lid. A hard white fabric with white tin glaze overall bears a green stripe along its edge, and the edge of a blue and white transfer printed design featuring water on its flat base or top. A letter, possibly Q, is embossed on the outer surface. Suggested date: Modern, 1850-1900. Wallace Collyer of the North Lincolnshire Pottery Research Group kindly identified this sherd. Weight: 46.12gms.

A rim sherd from an early Roman platter (c. 1st century AD). It is of a crude triangular form with breaks that are fairly abraded. It is very shallowly curved in profile. The rim is thickened (10mm) compared to the extant body (5.5mm). There is an external depressed band below the rim. Internally there is a thick ridge below the rim, below which two thin ridges. The platter is in imitation of Gallo-Belgic forms (Helen Rees pers. comm. 24 May 2012). The fabric is fairly fine and sandy. It has dark-grey outer surfaces with a lighter core.

The fabric is fine and sandy with some possible mica inclusions. It is light/mid-grey in colour. There are low parallel ridges internally that might be throwing marks. Given the findspot it may have come from the kilns at Alice Holt (Helen Rees pers. comm. 24 May 2012).

A rim sherd from a mortarium of Roman date. It is wheelmade, formed from a sandy and mixed pink/brown fabric that has small gritty and larger quartz inclusions, possibly an Oxford ware or perhaps a local fabric. The sherd has an elaborate out-turned rim, folded over at the outer edge to give it an oval shaped section. The surfaces have a paler white/pink slip or wash, with larger quartz inclusions visible particularly on the interior surface that range in colour from white to pink. A Roman rim and body sherd of Black-Burnished Ware (c. 43-c. 410 AD). This sherd has an everted rim and probably belonged to a jar. It is dark grey (almost black) and is tempered with flint and quartz. The outer diameter of the rim, when complete, would have been c. 12.0cm in diameter. Height: 75.98mm; width: 74.39mm; thickness: 8.14mm. Weight: 52.85g. The breaks are abraded. Surface find on cliff slopes.

Burnham Hoard 2010 T509: Ceramic: The pottery in the hoard appears to produce three seperate vessel bases, giving a minimum of three vessels associated with the hoard, however only the one remained relatively in tact. An incomplete clay pipe of post-medieval date. All that remains of the pipe is the complete bowl which is small and bulbous with an incised circumferential line around the rim. There's the remains of a foot beneath the bowl with no discernable makers mark and the tube has been lost to an old and worn break. The circular hole through the tube is slightly off-centre. Pipes such as this are an early form in the typology of clay pipes and would generally date from the early 17th century. The pipe is 32.20mm long, 20.89mm in diameter at widest point and 12.07mm at the mouth and weighs 9.4g.
