The scraper is formed from a squat oval flake of poor quality flint. The ventral face shows conchoidal ripples and the bulb of percussion . The dorsal face has a number of irregular and regular flake scars. A long edge has been reworked / retouched with small regular flakes creating by direct percussion creating a cutting / scraping serrated edge. The retouching of the edges is limited to the dorsal face only. A number of flake s…

Flint thumb nail (horseshoe) scraper of later Neolithic or Early Bronze Age date (2300 -1800BC). The scraper is formed from a mottled grey coloured piece of flint, probably derived from a glacial or riverine source. It is created from a tertiary flake (due to the size of the scraper this may originally be debitage). The ventral face shows clear evidence of the striking platform, point of percussion and the bulb of percussion as well as conchoidal ripple across the underside of the flake. The dorsal face has multiple and layered series of flake facets. These are most dense around the e…

Two flint scrapers formed on secondary debitage (from the second phase of tool making) dating from the Neolithic - possibly earlier Neolithic - period (3500-2100 BC). Both scrapers are formed on good quality chalk derived flint - not commonly seen in assemblages from the Marches. The larger scraper is formed from a blade like flake, the ventral face shows the striking platform, point and bulb of percussion and areas of conchoidal ripples. At the base of the flake it has been snapped at the point of a significant flaw in the matrix (a white / grey shaped …
