A slightly damaged, now incomplete cast copper-alloy double-looped buckle of post-medieval date (c. 17th century AD). The buckle is sub-rectangular in form and has rounded outer edges with central internal convex protrusions. There are slight spurs or knops projecting out from the sides of the frame just before each outer edge. The pin is missing, although traces of dark-orange/brown corrosion product at the centre of the pin bar and outer edges suggest that it was made of iron. There are two decorative angled incised lines at the end of the pin bar. The buckle is bevelled both extern…

A corroded and damaged copper-alloy probably medieval sheet buckle plate. It is of folded sheet construction of a single rectangular strip of copper alloy, which has been folded over and fixed together with two rivets one of which still survives in situ, but is not attached to the other fold. Both folds are rectangular and are the same length. The frame end (the fold) is recessed for the frame to each side and has a large central recess; it is not recessed at the sides for a frame. In one corner both rivet holes have been abraded through. The plate has corroded to a dark-green in colo…

A fragment from a medieval cast copper-alloy single-looped buckle frame consisting of the outer edge and the beginnings of the sides. The ornate outer edge features a pair large knops flanking a constriction for an extant sheet roller. The knops are delineated from the inner part of the outer edge by grooves on both faces. This narrows into the sides, both broken and vestigial, one slightly longer than the other. The buckle frame now has a dark-green patina. A buckle of similar construction can be found illustrated in Griffiths et al. (2007, 95; ref. 590).

A cast single-looped copper-alloy buckle frame of medieval date. The small buckle frame is oval with a lipped outer edge. The pin bar is offset and narrowed; the loop of the wire pin survives in place. The rest of the pin is missing. The upper surface is bevelled externally; the lower surface is flat. The lip features a central, transverse pin groove. The frame has a dark-green patina with some patches lighter as a result of corrosion. There are suggestions of fine file marks all over the frame. Buckle frames of similar form can be found illustrated in Egan and Pritchard (1991, 75; …

A small, corroded cast copper-alloy single-looped buckle frame of medieval date. The frame is oval with a rounded outer edge. The pin bar is offset and narrowed; the pin is missing, although orange/brown corrosion product at its centre suggests that it was made of iron. There is a nick in the frame side of the pin bar, just off centre. Both surfaces of the frame are rounded. The frame is covered in light-green and light-brown corrosion product over a red/brown metal.

A damaged, now incomplete medieval sheet buckle plate in copper alloy with traces of gilding. It is of folded sheet construction, and far wider than it is long; the lower fold is also smaller than the upper. Neither of these characteristics are that unusual. Both folds are rectangular; the lower fold is 13.3mm long, smaller than the upper, at 17.6mm. The frame end is recessed for the frame to each side and has a central pin slot which is deeper on the lower fold probably as a result of post-depositional damage; the frame and pin are absent. The lower fold is abraded, in one corner in …
