An oval loop of copper alloy has been inserted in the back, and is flanked by the stubs of an attached hinged pin and a loop to receive its pointed end. Five copper-alloy fragments of what appear to be from the same object, possibly World II ordnance. The 'rim' is rectangular in cross-section with the next extending flush with the interior. The rim is silvered or tinned but otherwise undecorated on the top and exterior. Two pieces of rim survive and these appear to join, but they dot form a circle, unless the current angles are somewhat distorted. An incomplete fragment from a cast copper alloy 'fob' seal of modern date probably later 18th or early 19th Century (1740-1850). The seal matrix is composite, being formed from a clear glass intaglio set into a machine pressed body. The metal body is broken and damaged, the upper part including the loop is lost. A complete cast lead customs seal of modern date. The seal is roughly circular in plan with a rectangular cross section and is comprised of a single disc of metal which is perforated by a hole running across its diameter. The hole would have been for wire or textile ligatures which were used to secure a bag. The cast collared spherical terminal of a hearth-brush, tongs or poker handle with a suspension loop which passes through an aperture, attached to a concavo-convex disc of diameter 44.5mm and thickness 1mm, intended to shield the user's hand from the heat of a fire. A further similar disc of diameter 47.6mm and thickness 0.8mm was reported along with this object, and probably derives from the same set of fireside implements. Suggested date: Modern, 1900-1950.
