  • Thumbnail image of LIN-3AD116

Record ID: LIN-3AD116
Object type: COIN
Broad period: IRON AGE
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A square sheet of lead with decoration that resembles the 'wreath crossed by a line' seen on the obverse of late Iron Age gold 'Ferriby' staters. The sheet is roughly square and has two rows of oval pellets running across the centre, with what appear to be two lines crossing it with possible crescentric terminals. The other side has a kidney-shape motif formed by concentric lines, but this is probably the result of the way the lead has solidified rather than being decoration. This object is possibly a failed casting of a lead core for a plated stater.

An enamelled copper-alloy mount, possibly from a hanging bowl. The mount is shovel-shaped, flat and decorated on one side only.
