A 19th century leather boot, incomplete and now partly covered in lichen. The boot was found unburied in woodland. June Swann comments from photographs: This is a hob-nailed ankle boot for work, or possibly army, use. It has two rows of brass rivets at the waist, and 10/11 pairs of lace holes. A 19th century copper alloy, silver-plated military button with attached textile. This is a button of the 2nd Surrey Militia where the precedence number they drew (11) was cleverly used to also look like II. It is possible that this design was a mess waiter's button but either way appears to be the fifth of six pattern known for this unit as there is some debate about the first pattern
