An incomplete plate of silver; possible silver metal working debris or hacksilver. The fragment is sub rectangular and has an irregular rectangular section too. One long edge is broken but the others seem to be complete though rough and unfinished. The faces are bumpy. The metal is dark grey with a slightly reflective surface. The plate is difficult to date alone, but as it is from an Early Medieval site, an Early Medieval date is suggested. A similar example from the same site is the flat bar in SWYOR-67A365. As it is probably more than 300 years old, and made of silver, …

Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL

A strip of silver; a fragment of an unidentified object. It is rectangular in plan and section, and bent at one end. The bent end is a worn break, but the other end seems complete. There is no decoration or evidence of attachment. The sides are square and complete. Though there is no evidence to date this object on the object itself, it comes from a known Early Medieval site, so it is likely to be Early Medieval in date. This object is probably more than 300 years old and is more than 10% silver so it meets the requirements of the 1996 Treasure Act.

A silver gilt hooked tag dating from the 16th century. The dress hook is trefoil in plan, with an external knop in each angle. Each lobe is domed and surrounded by an applied twisted wire border. The knops are domed pellets, and a matching one is in the centre of the plate between the three lobes. The pellets also have twisted wire borders. The plate of the lowermost lobe is extended into a point at the base. A fragment of an ingot of silver of probable Early Medieval date. The fragment of waste silver is probably evidence of silver working. It comes from a known Early Medieval site. The fragment is an undecorated, angular chunk. It is trapezoidal in section with a flange projecting from one bottom corner (perhaps a casting seam?). The corners are rounded and the sides are fairly smooth apart from occasional irregularities. The ends may be cuts across a rod or ingot; they are angled and oblique.
