A copper alloy Roman coin: a Q-Radiate of Allectus (AD 293-296) (Reece Period 14), reverse unclear, but would have depicted a galley. Obverse legend, IMP C ALLECTVS P AVG, suggests C Mint. It is 18.9mm in diameter and 1.4mm thick. It weighs 1.77gm. This coin has been considered for Sam Moorhead's corpus for RIC.

A cast copper alloy D shaped buckle dating from the early medieval period, c. 1000-1100. It has some elements of the Ringerike style and is probably Anglo-Scandinavian or Viking. It has a broad, flat frame and a narrowed strap bar. The inner corners and the shoulders of the frame each carry a small rounded knop and there is a trilobed projection in the centre of the outer edge. An incomplete frame from a cast copper alloy clasp dating from AD1300-1500. It consists of two tapering sides and a broad, sub-triangular outside edge. The outer edge is zoomorphic with two small circular pits towards the front for eyes and a pattern of hair or fur delineated by two transverse grooves, one V shaped and one straight, crossed by a number of shorter, longitudinal grooves. A cast copper alloy, D shaped, single loop buckle, Meols type 4, dating from the late 14th century. It has a narrowed and offset strap bar and a small, notched protrusion on the outer edge for the pin. The pin itself is missing. The buckle has a dark brown patina. It is 21.8mm long, 26.7mm wide and 3mm thick. It weighs 2.63gm.
A similar buckle is illustrated in Griffiths, Philpott and Egan, 2007, Meols: The Archaeology of the North Wirral Coast, plate 14, number 497.

Part of a wrought iron horseshoe, probably of medieval or post medieval date, AD1200-1700. The shoe is highly corroded and no evidence of nail holes can be seen. There does not appear to be a calkin (suggsting a later Medieval date onwards) nor evidence of clips or fullering (Post Medieval innovations). The sides of the shoe do not bulge round the holes, and the web is 30mm wide, making the shoe most similar to Museum of London types 3 or 4. These are more commonly found from 1200 onwards. Description: A metal finger ring, pale yellow in colour, of Post Medieval date. The ring is complete and is a shallow D shape is section. The hoop is 0.91mm thick and 3.73mm wide at the back flaring to 4.78mm wide at the shoulder. The bezel is rectangular and is no more than a widening of the hoop. It is 8mm wide and 9.5mm long. A sherd from a Medieval ceramic vessel probably dating from the 12th to 15th Centuries. The fabric is hard and fine and is a pale grey colour with an orange outer face. The fabric has large stone inclusions in it, some of them possibly flint; there are frequent grit and possible iron ore inclusions making the surface appear pimply. A mottled brown glaze has been applied to the inner face and there are splashes on the base and outer face. A similar glazed pottery sherd may be found at PAS record SWYOR-6C9831.

The bar is recessed and offset, but is broken. The outer edge extends into a forward-curving hook which folds back on itself to become parallel with the plate. A cast copper alloy Medieval bar mount dating from about the 13th Century. The mount has a hemispherical central lobe with projecting arms which terminate in a lobe at either end. 10 fragments of tile of uncertain date. Two fragments are distinctly curved, probably from roof tiles, and all are bright brick red, but the fabrics vary. One has lenses of white clay and pink clay, and large lumps of white clay. Others are a more uniform orange colour throughout. Some have quartz inclusions. Some are darker red with small black inclusions. Many are sanded on one face. They are all 13 - 18mm thick. The tiles could date from the Roman, Medieval or Post Medieval periods.

A flint multi-purpose tool probably dating from the Mesolithic period. It combines a scraper and a burin. It is a sub-rectangular flake of milky gray tan flint. Retouch on the distal end of the left side forms the burin at the distal left corner. There are removals from both the dorsal and ventral faces here. The distal end of the right edge has been retouch with fine abrupt removals from the ventral face to form a scraping edge. There is also evidence of platform preparation.

A very large lead alloy weight or possible anchor of unknown date. It is a flat, seven sided slab of lead alloy with an irregular circular hole though it. There are deep scratches on one face. It is 168mm by 160mm in plan, 50mm thick and weighs 6.5kg.
This find is clearly a weight designed to hang from an attachment through the hole. The finder interprets it as an anchor because the area where it was found was a 500 acre lake before it was drained in the 17th century. There is also retouch on the left side which is very fine and applied from the ventral face. There is a small circular hole on the dorsal face which is remarkable in having a tiny pillar of flint remaining in the centre. This is almost certainly natural, perhaps the work of marine organisms.

A post medieval, cast copper alloy, hooked tag dating from 1500-1600AD. It consists of three circular cells of equal size, joined together in a trefoil shape. These cells were once domed, but only a small portion of each dome now remains. Each cell is surrounded by a thin, filigree border. In the centre of each cell is a small, circular projection which penetrates through to the back of the tag. The fastening loop and the curved hook are both missing. The tag has a patchy, light green patina. It is 22.9mm long, 21.5mm wide and 4.5mm thick. It weighs 1.78gm.

It is hemispherical in shape and decorated on the upper surface with a cross-hatched pattern of small squares separated by narrow grooves. Traces of red enamel remain in some of these grooves. The underside is hollow and there is a single, circular, copper alloy mounting spike that penetrates the upper surface slightly off centre. The mount has patchy, dark green patina. It is 15mm high and 16.7mm in diameter. It weighs 9.34gm.

The remaining portion is 32.5mm long, 9mm wide and 6.5mm thick It weighs 6.88gm.

From each corner and side of the matrix the sides taper up to form a stem with a central collar. A smaller second collar above that leads to an integral circular suspension loop. The suspension loop terminates a small knop on the top. The hole in the suspension loop is aligned parallel with the longest axis of the rectangular matrix and is filled with iron corrosion from a means of attachment. A cast, copper alloy sword belt fitting dating from the post-medieval period, AD1500-1700. It consists of a flat body decorated with a floral and foliage pattern. It has a small knop at one end, and expanded into a fleur-de-lis terminal at the other. The wide end is damaged and may have extended into a loop or hook fitting. There is some ferrous corrosion in the centre of the wide end which might be the remains of a rivet.
There are a number of similar belt fitting on the database; for example HESH-51ADE4 and SWYOR-B7BD55.

A large and crude lead alloy uniface token of probably Medieval or Post Medieval date. The design is a geometric pattern (Powell type 9) of lines. There is one line across the base which is formed of conjoined solid triangles, with three lines radiating from the centre. This design may be based on the better made token recorded as SWYOR-549FC3 which is from the same field. The edges of the token are rounded untidy.

A lead alloy uniface token of probably Medieval or Post Medieval date. The design is a geometric pattern (Powell type 9) of lines formed of conjoined solid triangles. There are two lines across the base, with three lines radiating from the centre of the upper line. There are also initials (Powell type 2): a letter S on the left and a B with a gap between the two loops on the right. The letters are untidy. Compare to SWYOR-54B783 which may be a crude copy of this token. It was found in the same field.

A cast copper alloy medieval casket key dating from the 12th to late 14th century AD (Egan et al 1998:111-112). The key has a circular bow, and a shank that is sub-rectangular in plan and circular in section, with a bulbous collar before the bow. The bit is a rectangular tab with a wide cleft in the leading edge. The shank is hollow (although now filled with mud). Similar examples can be seen in Egan et al 1998.

It is an example of Meols Type 10 which has an oval frame with an expanded outer edge decorated with a projecting knop at each end and three grooves across the outer edge. An incomplete Medieval cast copper alloy bar mount. It has a central lobe, with a hole, and two tapering bars of which only one survives. It has a terminal lobe which is pierced by a copper alloy rivet. The mount is mostly semi-circular in section, with a flat back; but the bars is faceted making it triangular in section. It is decorated with a raised ridge across each end of the bar. It dates from 1150-1350. See also PAS record IDs SWYOR-B04BD3, BERK-8CFC90 and KENT-D00533 for similar bar mounts. A cast copper alloy toggle of late Iron Age or Early Roman date. It is a cylindrical bar decorated with 11 grooves running round the bar. There is a hollow in each end of the bar. From the centre of one side projects a broken loop, with one of the grooves dividing the loop into two halves as well. The breaks are worn and patinated. The toggle has a grey green patina. Compare LON-1A6571, CAM-DEB4B0, DENO-FE3BA7 and GLO-1B1400. HAMP-2931B4 and SWYOR-7D71D7 may also be related.

A fragment of a copper alloy Roman brooch, a Headstud variant - Thealby type dating from 100 - 200 AD. The fragment consists of the head, the wings, and the tubular hinge mechanism. The upper bow has a concave surface with raised edges which continue to the top of the brooch. The wings have four vertical ridges on either side. A cast copper alloy Roman knee brooch dating from 150 - 250 AD. The brooch has a convex bow, wide at the top and tapering to the foot which is a half round disc which juts forwards. Part of the catchplate survives behind. The head is tubular wings holding a copper alloy axis bar and with a slot for the missing pin. Above is an integral head loop. An complete cast copper alloy Post-Medieval buckle frame dating from about 1500-1650. The double loop oval frame has moulded knops at either end of a slightly recessed strap bar. The frame has been bent; the attached pin moves freely along the pin bar but has been worn to a point, no longer able to rest securely against the frame. The buckle frame has a light green patina flecked with dull yellow. Please see examples in Whitehead's (2003) Buckles, pages 54-55.

An incomplete cast copper alloy Medieval buckle frame dating from about 1100 - 1300. The lipped single oval frame is a D-shaped in plan but the bar is not narrowed nor offset. There is a pin notch on the lip of the frame and a ridge on the bar where the pin would have been attached. It and the plate are now missing. The back of the frame is concave, and the outer edge is angled. The buckle frame has a dark brown patina.

A cast copper alloy Post Medieval mount. The object is in the shape of an acorn, with a length of stem projecting to the side of the acorn cup. The upper half of the mount represents the acorn and is separated from the lower half by two horizontal, parallel incised lines. The lower half of the body represents the acorn cup. There are two integral rivets on the reverse, one broken and one bent. This object was probably for mounting onto a strap, either a personal belt or a harness strap. Compare YORYM-258015.
