Object type: GAMING PIECE
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A group of fifteen smooth and rounded stone pebbles which could have been used as gaming counters. They vary in colour from grey through buff to pink. They were all found in one area of one field, but it remains a possibility that they are a natural river gravel deposit. The site is a known Early Medieval one, so if they are archaeological, an Early Medieval date is suggested.

A group of nine lead alloy, globular objects, originally recorded as polyhedral weights, probably of Early Medieval date, but now thought to be Post Medieval buckshot. Each consists of a globule of metal impressed with a number of circular depressions. They range in size from 4.5mm in diameter, weighing 0.43gm, to 5.7mm in diameter, weighing 0.9gm. The others are: 5.49mm, 0.73g; 5.3mm, 0.81g; 5.49mm, 0.72g; and 5.63mm, 0.72g. One further is angular rather than rounded (perhaps squashed) and measures 5.7mm x 4.6mm x 4.3mm and weighs 0.46g. Object type: WEIGHT
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A lead alloy object, possibly a weight of Early Medieval date. The object is a rectangular cuboid of lead alloy with most of the faces faceted. Each long face has two facets, so it is peaked in the centre of each face. This leaves a lozenge shaped concave area in the middle of each edge between the peaks. The end faces of the solid of flat squares. The lead is patinated to a creamy yellow colour. The object cannot be dated alone, but it is from a known Early Medieval site, so an Early Medieval date is suggested.
