Roman coin: prpbable sestertius of Maximus (AD 235-8), dating to AD 235-6 (Reece Period 11), PIETAS AVG S C, Priestly Implements. Mint of Rome. RIC IV, pt 2, p. p. 155, cf. no. 6; BMC VI, p. 232, cf. nos. 119-20. Although the coin is light at 14.3g, it has had circumferential loss. Furthermore, dupondii appear to be incredibly rare for Maximus - there are none in the BM collection.

A copper alloy Roman coin with extensive wear and degradation of the identifiable marks. The obverse has a portrait head not dissimilar to Severus Alexander (AD222 – AD235) and the size would indicate that it is a Sestertius. The reverse has a standing figure, possibly Ceres with the initials SC to either side. The coin has the appearance and style of a counterfeit of the period.
