A Post Medieval gold finger ring. The finger ring is circular in plan, with a little distortion in shape, and D-shaped cross-section although there is a slight curve to the internal surface which forms the upright of the D. The external surface is plain with no decoration nor inscription. There is an inscription on the internal surface. The finger ring is very worn and the upper section of the inscription is worn away. A Medieval gold figurine of a saint, dating 15th - early 16th century. This figurine has been cast three-dimensionally showing a standing figure in long robes with a beard and a nimbus decorated with radiating lines. The figure is holding a staff with a cross terminal in his left hand and his right hand is raised to just below his beard. On the figure's back there are two raised sections, possibly wings, which project from the top of the shoulders and flow down till level with the lowered hand. Plain gold ring, thin D-shaped band inscribed inside in lower case: love as I or else I dye with maker's mark SF in a shield. Dimensions: Thickness: 1.4 mm Diameter: 19.2 mm Weight: 4.02 g The same mark occurs on a ring in the British Museum collections, 1961,1202.389, although not identifiable in any standard reference work the mark occurs on the 1682 marks plate at goldsmiths hall, this ring can therefore be given a pre-1712 date.

Description: A gold finger ring with inverted-pyramidal bezel, missing its inset. Each of the four faces of the bezel is decorated with an incised herringbone pattern, to take enamel.
