Pilgrim Badge. Cast ampulla retaining one crescentic handle, and with a wall of thickness 1.2mm where this is exposed. A motif on one side comprises a flower with four longitudinally divided petals. The motif on the other side appears to be a crown with a markedly arched band and a prominent central fleur. Patinated overall, and torn at one top corner. Body Sherd. Hard fine dull red fabric with thick black internal and external glaze, from a large thin walled vessel. The internal glaze is bubbled so as to expose the fabric beneath, so a kitchen function would perhaps be unlikely. Suggested date: Modern, 1800-1950. This sherd was kindly examined by Helen Fry, Sandra Firth and Hazel West of the North Lincolnshire Pottery Research Group.

Pilgrim Badge. Cast Ampulla with handles remaining - one broken and the other folded back against the neck. Low relief decoration appears on both sides. On one side is a compass drawn eight-petalled flower in low relief; on the other a roundel which contains a cross-hatched or diaper pattern in its lower quarter, and other indistinct curvilinear motifs. Brooch. Nauheim Derivative, possibly Mackreth (2011) class 4b2, which is defined as being distinguished by fluting down the bow. One piece brooch with pin, three coiled spring and a narrow straight-sided bow tapered at its end, with an integral unpierced catch-plate. The diagnostic fluting amounts to pronounced borders to a rectangular section bow, with a central longitudinal rib flanked by gutters, all giving out at the pointed foot where the catch-plate lies. Copper alloy with traces of gilding
Crucifix. Flat straight-armed crucifix with an apical loop for suspension. Both sides bear motifs in stamped low relief. On one side is the crucified Christ, draped at the waist and haloed, with scroll above. The other side bears the motif of a rayed Eucharistic host and chalice, and the legend THY / KING / DOM /COME - from the Lord's Prayer - with one syllable on each of the four arms of the cross.
The emphasis on the Eucharist and the kingship of Christ would probably make this a Roman Catholic or High Anglican piece; as Catholic devotion on…

Copper alloy brooch. Hinged bow and fantail brooch fragment. Cast tubular wings enclosing an axis bar retaining the stub of a hinged pin. A D-section bow with curvilinear moulding to its sides expands to meet the full length of the wings, and then tapers to a denticulated collar, below which the stub of a triangular plate protrudes; the lower part of brooch is lost. Suggested date: early Roman, 80-150.
