A copper alloy French jetton, struck during the reign of Charles V or VI (AD 1373-1415). A jetton is a type of reckoning counter and were used across Europe for c.400 years. This example bears the inscription AVE MARIA GRACIA PL(ENA), which translates to "Hail Mary, full of grace". Mitchiner (1988) p179-182, no. 462-480.

Medieval French copper alloy jetton of the shield of france ancien type, mis-struck with one blank side, shield of France ancien / blank. Similar obverse are illustrated in Mitchiner (1988:172), no. 433-434b who suggests they were issued under Charles VI (1380-1422) and dated to the early 1380's during the process of coinage and jetton reformation. The jetton has been folded and has split almost completely across on the fold.

The obverse depicts three crowns alternating with three lis arranged around a central rose. The reverse depicts an Imperial orb surmounted by a cross patty within a three arched tressure. Both legends are illegible. The edges are worn and damaged. The jetton is typical of Nuremberg jettons from the 16th century. Weight: 0.7g. Diameter: 21.09mm.

A copper alloy, post medieval Nuremberg jetton of the 'Ship Penny' type, dating from AD1490-1550. This is an example of the anonymous issue with fictitious legend. It is a little unusual in that the ship on the obverse is sailing to the right, unlike the majority of these jettons which have the ship sailing left. The jetton has been pierced with a circular hole at 7 o'clock on the obverse. It is 27.9mm in diameter and 0.7mm thick. It weighs 2.66gm.
