A complete, Age uncertain, crudely cast, lead alloy, medium size, 'home-made' unofficial conical shaped weight possibly used in the manufacture of textiles or a possible spindle whorl. The weight is plain, rounded conical shaped with a relatively large central hole, tapering slightly as it reaches the base. It has a slightly irregular pale grey/cream coloured, lightly corroded surface. This weight is of unknown date but is likely to be between 43-1799AD. Ref. Two body sherds from very abraded handmade vessels with worn surfaces and some burning in places. They have a coarse fabric with gritty inclusions and some clay pellets, as well as possible organic material in one of the sherds. They have a combined total weight of 36.70g. The precise date of these sherds remains uncertain. It is possible thay are of later Iron Age date, however an Early Anglo-Saxon or even Medieval date cannot be ruled out entirely due to the abraded nature of the sherds.

Complete but worn glass bead. The bead, which is sub-spherical with a single central perforation, is opaque and pale turquoise-blue in colour. There are turning marks evident around the circumference of the bead. The dating of glass beads found out of context is difficult. The reasons for this include that the method of manufacure has changed very little over time and also that when beads are plain, as in this case, there is little indication of date given by the object itself. The date is therefore uncertain with a range from late Iron Age to Modern having been suggested for si…

Two fragments of painted wall plaster of uncertain date. They have a soft, slightly porous white fabric with some sandy and gritty inclusions, terminating in old breaks in all directions. The surfaces have been smoothed and prepared for painting, with traces of a dark paint visible on one fragment, now appearing gray in colour. However, the original painted surfaces are extremely worn making close identification of either colour or date range impossible. The two fragments have a combined weight of 518g. They are of uncertain date and although may feasibly be as early as the Roman peri…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A rectangular, or bar-shaped piece of silver casting waste. One end of the bar has been flattened although the purpose for this is unclear. There are markings on one side of the bar that look like a row of zig-zags, but this may just be a result of the casting process. Although made of silver, the artefact is undiagnostic and cannot be securely dated to pre-1712 AD. Therefore it does not fulfill the criteria of the Treasure Act 1996.

The object is pyriform in plan, with a widening sub-triangular cross-section. Light ripples are visible on one face, but the bulb and platform of percussion is missing. No small retouch is visible although there are microlithic removals on what is presumably the semi-circular distal edge. A small strip of cortex remains on the dorsal surface, running from the mesial edge to one of the outer edges, near the distal end. Dispersed fractures on both surfaces revea…

An oval shaped stone with a flattened base, that has a roughly circular perforation through the centre. The perforation is set at 90 degrees from the flattened base and has a diameter of 4.68mm. The stone weighs 3.68g, has an oval diameter of 17.63mm x 14.46mm and height of 13.94mm. Discussion: Stones can have naturally occurring cylindrical perforations if the stone has formed around another item such as Belamite fossils. The stone can then be eroded and weathered into pebbles that fortuitously resemble beads and therefore makes identification difficult. Dr Kevin Leahy identifi…
