Pottery rim sherd from a bowl with a 'Cornish flanged' (Quinnell, 2004, p.124) rim. The flange below the rim is pointed and horizontal, but damaged, and angled at about 90 degrees from the body of the bowl. Above and below the flange are recessed grooves which help to define the flange from the body of the bowl. The fabric is is a light browny grey colour throughout and contains mica, felspar and augite inclusions, which suggests that it is made from gabbroic clay, originating from the Lizard. The exterior surface looks as if it was originally black-coated, now mostly worn …

Roman brooch; cast copper alloy Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, West Midlands) type cf. Mackreth 2011, 4.a-4.b, 4c. The brooch has broad, cylindrical wings with a plate on each end with a dot in the centre. The back of the head has a large lump of rust-coloured corrosion suggesting that the pin, which is now missing, was probably made of iron and has thus corroded away. The brooch has a deeply-curving, tapering bow with no extant decoration. The catchplate is still present at the base of the bow. There is no foot decoration. The whole has an even, thick, grey-g

A copper alloy book clasp, probably of Howsam type A.9.1. It is cast in one piece, but composed of three elements; a rectangular attachment end, an oval dome and a sub-triangular protrusion. The front of the rectangular attachment end has a raised edge on three sides; the fourth side is flat, allowing the strap to lie flat on this portion of the clasp. There is a central rivet hole along this edge to fix the strap in place. Integral to the opposite edge is the second element, the oval dome. This is only slightly domed, and has a central rivet hole. This hole would allow a peg fixed…

Part of the wings and the lower part of the bow, including the catch-plate, are missing due to old breaks. The pin is also missing.
