Uncertain lump of irregular metal, possibly silver, although the surface has some gold coloured areas which appear to have been filed. The lump is undiagnostic, so cannot be characterised as more than 300 years old. Wt.: 9.9g Note: this item is probably silver but cannot be determined as being more than 300 years old, so does not qualify as treasure as stipulated in the Treasure Act 1996. Dr Richard Hobbs

Cast lead ingot of uncertain date. The object is sub-rectangular in plan and oval in cross-section. Ingots were a convenient way in which to store and transport raw materials prior to their melting down for the manufacture of cast metal objects. It is difficult to date such undiagnostic items. There is no evidence of corrosion and the condition of the ingot indicates that it is of a late date. It has a dark brown patina.

Cast copper alloy ring with a D shaped section: flat inner side, convex outer. There are two holes drilled through it at not quite 180 degrees round the ring (if one was at 12 o'clock the other would be at 7). The presence of the holes suggest this is a decorative or reinforcing ring for a wooden pole rather than a finger or suspension ring. Pins would have run through the holes to attach the ring to the pole. It is 26.3mm in external diameter, 6.7mm wide and 4.0mm thick; the holes are 2.3mm in diameter; it weighs 9.61 grams. Such a simple item is hard to date and could be Roman - Post…
