Description Half of a penannular ring of circular cross-section comprising gold foil covering a base metal (copper alloy) core. The exposed core and outer surface of the gold are iron-stained, probably from the burial environment. The fragment appears to have been quite neatly cut from the direction of the gap as the inner edge of the cross-section is flattened over the edge of the core and the outer edge is more ragged. A Post-Medieval gold finger-ring (or posy ring) inscribed * harts + content x cannot x repent on the inside of the hoop. It measures 21.80mm in diameter (internal 18.44mm) and weighs 6.37g. A folded gold strip comprising eleven gold wires joined side by side by soldering. Max. length 15.93mm; max. width 8.14mm; max. thickness 4.4mm; thickness of wire approx.. 0.62mm; weight 2.26 grams. Both manufacturing technique and composition are consistent with a Bronze Age date, although precise analogues for the type are presently lacking. Gold ribbon ornaments are known from the Middle Bronze Age, c. 1300-1100 BC, but the ribbed effect is achieved here by grooving (cf the piece from Ilam, Staffs. Post-Medieval gold posy ring, plain exterior, now much scratched and slightly mis-shapen. Inscribed inside: *CONTINEW CONStant with remains of black enamel in inscription. It is very unusual for an inscription to change from upper to lower caser in one word, especially as in this example there is space enough to continue the inscription with capitals.

2012 T675: A late medieval gold posy ring. The hoop is circular in plan and D-shaped in cross-section. The exterior is decorated with a two lozenges set within a hatched rectangular panel, both on opposite sides of the hoop. A complete, but bent gold posy finger ring of Late Post Medieval dating (17th Century AD). The exterior of the ring with a repeating lozenge design, enclosing a fern like leaf. A inscription is present on the interior of the ring and reads: A small rememberanc. The hoop is D shaped in section. No maker's mark is present. A medieval gold annular (ring) brooch, circular in shape, terminating in two clasped hands. It has two inscribed facets punctuated by colons with a quatrefoil flower at the base and centre right. Reading clockwise from the pin, the letters (on the inner band) are V O : V O and (on the outer band) V O ? : V O L. The pin is plain with a beaded collar. The clasped hands may once have held a pearl or a gem, now lost. The reverse of the brooch is flat and plain. Comparable brooches are 2006 T119 and 2007 T389. An Early Post Medieval gold Puzzle fede-ring ring of 17th - 18th century date . The ring is made up of three bands of gold; one beaded on either side of which is a plan band. All three are interlaced at the back. The bezel is attached to the center beaded band and is in the form of two clasped hands. The ring is 21.1mm in diameter, 3.8mm wide, 1.1mm thick and weighs 3.83 grams. Similar example of Puzzle fede-rings can be seen in the British Museum collections: AF.1157/Dalton 1912 1074. As the ring cannot be securely dated to pre-1712 it falls outside the remit of the Treasure Act.
