A large gold finger ring with no decoration or hallmarks. The band is D-shaped in cross-section. The shape is consistent with a date in the early post-medieval period (16th - 17th century), but in the absence of either inscription, exterior decoration, or maker's mark, there is not enough evidence to confirm that it is more than 300 years old.

Description: A small circular gold object, probably a pendant. The object has a backplate apparently made from a number of smaller pieces of gold, which is framed by a gold strip set on edge, 1.5mm wide, which runs around the edge to a butted join at the top. Within this is a two-ply twist of gold wires, c. 0.5mm in diameter, which forms an inner frame and also has a joint at the top. Here the twist meets three more two-ply twists which extend from the top edge of the disc vertically down into the middle. This appears to form a neck, as it ends in a raised animal head made from solder…

Description: Early Anglo-Saxon gold disc pendant made from a relatively thick back-plate onto which are soldered all the other components. In the centre is a collar formed from a vertical strip of sheet gold, retaining a shiny translucent orange/brown cabochon containing air bubbles, identified by Raman spectroscopy (see below) as glass. The collar is now cracked and has a lumpy appearance, possibly some gold solder acting as a repair. Arranged around the setting are ten beaded-wire heart shapes, either touching each other or nearly so; the points touch the collar and the inward-sp…

A medieval gold finger-ring with an oval bezel. The bezel is recessed with high walls and holds a purple stone in the centre. The stone has a drilled hole running through the middle, suggesting this is a reused bead, the aperture of the drilled hole is above each of the shoulders. Both shoulders are decorated with twin zoomorphic arms that consist of two animals or dragons with oval eyes and gaping mouths that grip the bezel. The creatures' bodies run in parallel along shoulders of the hoop, consisting of long sinuous necks, which expand to the shoulders of the animals where the forel…

Post-Medieval gold finger-ring, thin hoop expanding slightly towards the shoulders. Bezel in the form of a central faceted stone (diamond?) flanked by lozenges with three tiny stones (diamonds?). The bezels each with enamelled 'tongues' with traces of white enamel remaining, further white enamel on the shoulders. Two wide, rectangular-sectioned ovoid loops, interlinked and affixed at one end by a truncated bar. Each loop is decorated with applied twisted gold wires forming a running lozenge pattern with loops at the borders, interspersed with tiny globular gold beads. Of unknown function - perhaps part of an earring or decoration for a hair pin. Stylistically, however, it is consistent with late 19th century jewellery of archaising design.

Description: Oval box bezel from a 4th century gold finger-ring with dextrarum iunctio design. The backing plate and walls of the cell are formed of a single piece of gold. Within the cell is another thin sheet of gold decorated in repoussé with a pair of clasped hands surrounded by a beaded border. It is kept in place by a loose, chamfered band which extends around the inside of the cell and not affixed to the walls themselves. A twisted gold wire surrounds the outside of the cell, approximately a third of the way up the walls. A short remnant of a plain wire below this suggests oth…

A late-Medieval to post-Medieval gold finger-ring with a misshapen hoop and oval collet, the setting is missing. Treasure case no 2012 T688.
