PAS-RC07 Grid F8 A rim sherd of Samian type Roman pottery. The fabric hard and fine grained with mica inclusions. The fabric is assessed by observation of worn rather than fresh breaks. The slip / glaze is abraded and worn and a mid brown red colour. Where the sherd has been abraded the slip has been removed to reveal the buff orange brown coloured fabric beneath. PAS-RC07 Grid F5 Sherd of Roman Severn Valley Ware Mortaria. The fabric is relatively soft and slightly powdery with sparse angular and sub angular quartz and grit inclusions. The fabric also contains considerable inclusions of mica / sand. The fabric colour is a mid buff brown and the outer colour is a lighter mid buff. There is not enough of the body of the mortaria surviving to give an estimation of the depth or overall form/shape or diameter of the vessel. The sherd measures 40.3mm length, 30.6mm width, is 18mm thick and weighs 20.9 grams.
