The ventral face shows some conchoidal ripples but striking platform etc. has been removed by snapping. The dorsal face has multiple and layered series of flake facets. A tranchet chisel struck on a tertiary flake of mid brownish grey coloured flint. The artefact is very regular and well made it is likely to be of prehistoric date: Neolithic - Bronze Age (3500-1800 BC). A direct parallel for such a specialist tool has not been found. The chisel is a triangular (wedge) shape in plan and rectangular in cross section. Cast copper alloy crotal bell, or closed rumbler bell, spherical in shape with a central mid rib that runs around the circumference of the bell at its widest point, which is 53 mm in diameter, where the two hemispheres have been soldered together. The top hemisphere of the bell has two larger sound holes and two smaller rivet holes which would have held the cast suspension loop, now lost, to the body of the bell. This upper hemisphere has surface layers of corrosion, but still appears to be undecorated. The base hemisphere of the bell has the initials R W of the maker, on either side …

An incomplete cast copper alloy single sharp-hooked tag clasp, probably early Post Medieval in date, c. 1500-c. 1600 AD. Read Class D, Type 2: Circular/Sub-circular clasps with lateral attachment loop on reverse and composite construction.
