The break at the wider end appears fairly recent, that towards the tip is more probably ancient damage. Heavily abraded. Copper alloy brooch. Cast spring fastened trumpet brooch, Mackreth Type Tr.1.2. A trumpet head with six coiled spring is decorated by curvilinear arcs on either side of the bow. The bow then tapers to a petalled knop with mouldings above and below it which do not extend round the back of the bow.
