Copper alloy with paint or oil.
Mount. Cast mount in the shape of a heart with a flat display face with bevelled edges. The hollow back has a thick edge 2.6mm wide, with a pair of apertures for fixing, both occupied by sharp strands of copper alloy wire. The black coating of the display face might suggest an early post-medieval date, but the regularity of the object overall, and particularly on the hollow back, hints indicates it is probably later. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1700-1800.

A copper-alloy hooked mount of post-Medieval date.
The upper portion of the mount consists of a plate (now bent) with a 'V-shaped' depression in its top side, and two long sides which converge towards a basal hook. The flat-sectioned plate has been pierced twice, close to the top; the uppermost of these holes contains iron corrosion from the now-missing rivet and there is adhering iron corrosion or mineralised leather on the reverse. The rearward hook has been bent into a closed loop. A separate copper-alloy ring is contained within the loop of the hook.
