A complete cast lead vessel which has been squashed flat, and therefore out of its original form. It was of open form and semicircular cross-section, intended to lean against (or be attached to) a vertical surface. The vessel flares out as its sides ascend; the flaring is more slightly pronounced above a pair of low transverse ridges around two-thirds up the vessel's side. They are echoed by an upper line at the lip. The field between is plain, unlike on other examples (cf. HAMP-5EE152 on this database for example). At the base the vessel is 42.0mm across, expanding to 73.2mm at the (…

Lead
Powder Flask Cap or Measure, as kindly suggested by the finder. Cast cylindrical vessel with prominent seams on opposite outer surfaces. The base - or top, if a lid - is probably a separately made plate of rounded rhomboid form. There is a small round dimple, perhaps related to casting, at each end. Patinated overall. Lead
Counter. Cast disc with relief decoration on both sides and a rounded rim. One face bears a crude rectilinear lattice pattern; the other bears a series of radial lines which intersect an inner circle, all somewhat haphazardly placed. The former recalls the form of a chequer board, so this object might be associated with accounting, or with a board game requiring the distinction of pieces. It might alternatively be a dole token handed out to the poor, as associated with the charitable functions of monastic houses. Suggested date: Medieval, 1200-1500.

Lead
Spindle Whorl. Cast plano-convex whorl with off-centre aperture of diameter 9mm. The convex face bears relief decoration of paired radial lines, which approach the triangular convention for the decoration of early post-medieval whorls. This dainty example, however, is unusual in that there is only one convex face, and in its light weight which would make it suitable for the spinning of yarn. Suggested date: Late Medieval to Post-Medieval, 1400-1600.

Lead
Weight. Cast plano-convex conical weight with central aperture of diameter 4.8mm. This hole is a little small to accommodate a spindle; the object is more probably a line weight. The mass is also very close to one averdepois ounce, so a use for mensuration is also possible. Suggested date: Medieval, 1200-1500.

Lead
Possible Spindle Whorl. Cast biconvex whorl with central aperture ranging in diameter from 4.8mm to 6mm, which is unusually small for such an object. The object bears the mutilated remnants of cast decoration of lines and pellets on both its surfaces, again normal characteristics of lead whorls, though these are obscured by abrasion, hammering and perhaps partial melting. The object may have been reused for some distinct purpose, perhaps as a line weight. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1600.

Lead
Spindle Whorl. Cast biconvex whorl with central aperture of diameter 9.8mm. Relief decoration comprises radial lines with haphazardly scattered pellets between them on both sides. The mass of the object indicates a use plying cord rather than spinning a yarn. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1600.

Spindle Whorl. Cast biconvex whorl with slightly waisted central aperture of diameter 9.6mm. An incomplete cast lead or lead alloy ampulla. In plan it is semi-circular as only the lower portion of the ampulla remains. There is a design on both faces, but the details are not clear. One face is missing a portion, and this does not appear to have occurred recently, and likewise with the damaged upper edge. The surface of the ampulla has developed a mottled light grey/cream coloured patina. Its length from the upper edge to the apex of the base is 27.66mm, the maximum width across the lower portion is 33.04mm, and the thickness of the base of the ampulla is 9.41mm. It weighs 27.…
