Object type: RIVET
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Copper alloy
Rivet. Sheet metal of thickness 0.5mm rolled to produce a hollow tapered round section pin; light hammering has provided a slightly expanded flat head. This method of making a pin or rivet was presumably an improvised response to a particular need, though it actually occurs in this region as early as the Roman period. The condition of the thin metal here indicates a later date. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1600-1800.
