An incomplete cast copper-alloy object, probably a strap fitting or slide of Early-Medieval date. It has a flat rectangular plate, on the back face of which at either end are single integrally cast rectangular lugs that are missing their outer edges due to old breaks. The front face of the plate has extensive chip carved decoration. This comprises a rectangular border containing at its centre a band of punched pellet shaped motifs. At the centre of the plate is a chip carved motif within a recessed field, the field possibly keyed to take enamel or similar decorative elements. The central motif has been examined by Dr. Kevin Leahy, PAS National Finds Advisor, who suggests that the combined decorative elements are in the Winchester Style and depict two facing birds or animals positioned with foliate decoration between and below them. Thus, at the top are heads with incurving beaks or snouts and bodies extending below in double-stranded decoration. Double diagonal ridges transect each body mid-way down its length and at their base are possibly claws or similar clutching the foliate motif. This is triangular in form with short grooves at the base and two punched crescentic motifs. The entire object measures 28.66mm in length, 21.82mm in width, 3.10mm in thickness and 10.04g in weight.
This is a Winchester Style strap slide of Early-Medieval date. Parallels with similar decorative elements suggest that it should date to the later Early-Medieval period, probably in the 10th century AD (K. Leahy, pers. comm.).

A worn silver coin that has been bent in half due to post-depositional damage. It has been examined by Dr. Luke Treadwell at the University of Oxford (pers. comm. via Dr. John Naylor), who notes that although most of the useful identifying features are now too worn to identify it does resemble a Samanid dirham of late 9th or early 10th century AD date.

A complete cast copper-alloy hooked tag of Post-Medieval date. The tag has an openwork plate that is trefoil shaped and in the form of a Hungerford knot. This consists of a single hatched cord that is interlaced to form the trefoil knot shape, each end of the cord terminating at the top of the plate with a small moulded five petalled rose. From the top of each rose extends a transverse bar that is rectangular in form and D-shaped in section and which creates an attachment loop that is triangular in form. At the base of the plate/knot is the the integral hook. This has a moulded oval shaped collar, perhaps in the form of a human face, the hook itself being triangular in section and curving backwards to a sharp point. The back face of the plate is flat and undecorated. It measures 32.63mm in length, 18.70mm in width, 1.87mm in thickness, and weighs 2.42g.
This is an incomplete Post-Medieval hooked tag belonging to Read's Early Post-Medieval Class E Type 5 hooked tags. Read publishes a near identical example from London (Read, 2008: no. 437) and suggests a probable 16th century AD date for the group.

An incomplete cast copper-alloy mount or strap fitting of uncertain date. One terminal end survives intact, the remainder of the object missing due to old breaks. It is flat, rectangular in form with a curved terminal end that has a central circular aperture. The front face has borders along each side formed from deeply incised single lines, with traces of incised zig-zag motifs at the rounded terminal. Within the borders at the centre of the plate is chip carved decoration comprising a broad and relatively crudely rendered zig-zag or wavy line motif. On both faces of the object there are traces of an adde white metal coating. It measures 30.65mm in length, 12.56mm in width, 1.45mm in thickness and 3.13g in weight.
This is a decorative terminal, possibly from a strap fitting, mount or similar item. The decorative elements are potentially indicative of an Early-Medieval date, however the object is relatively crudely rendered and its preservation makes a close attribution problematic. It is possible that it is of later, Medieval date, perhaps from the 12th-15th centuries AD, although no close parallel has yet been identified.
