A copper-alloy halfpenny of George III, first issue, c.1770-1775 AD. The coin has a deep groove around its edge, as well as two circular rivets that pierce both sides of the flan. This, combined with its weight, suggests the object may comprise two coins that have been riveted together. Precisely why this may have been done remains uncertain, particularly given that the reverse(?) face is now completely illegible, although potentially it may be the result of usage as a token, gaming piece or similar.
