A medieval cast copper alloy buckle, complete with frame, pin, plate and three domed rivets. The frame is oval and has a narrow offset attachment bar. The plate tapers and the lower part is narrower than the upper. There appears to be no decoration but the upper part of the plate retains traces of gilding.

An incomplete Medieval cast copper-alloy buckle (c. 1200-c. 1400 AD). The pin is missing. The frame is 'D'-shaped in plan and oval in cross-section. The bar is 'D'-shaped in cross-section. Its outer edge is swollen and the upper face of the frame is ribbed overall. This buckle frame has a green patina with some small areas of corrosion. 20.49 x 25.59 x 5.84mm. Weight: 5.24g.

An incomplete cast copper alloy buckle of post-medieval date. The buckle is roughly half of a double looped oval with moulded decoration on the loops. Lobed knops are present at two symmetrical points on the surviving loop and at either end of the strap bar. The metal has a mid blackish-green patina and is worn. The buckle is 24.8mm long, 22.8mm wide, 2.7mm thick and weighs 3.5g. A similar example is illustrated in Whitehead p.63, no.382 and is dated to circa 1550 - 1650.

A complete cast copper alloy buckle of post-medieval date. The buckle is a double looped asymmetrical shape with moulded decoration on the loops. The outer edge of the rectangular loop bears six lobed knops and two further knops are also present at symmetrical points on the outer edge. Lobed protrusions also project from either end of the strap bar. The metal has a mid brownish-green patina and is worn. The buckle is 23.9mm long, 18.9mm wide, 2.5mm thick and weighs 2.7g. A similar example is illustrated in Whitehead, p.92, no.577 and is dated to circa 1575 - 1700.

A complete cast copper alloy buckle of medieval date. The buckle is a single looped D-shape with a narrowed and recessed strap bar. Slight internal projections are present where the strap bar and frame proper meet. The buckle is undecorated and the square sectioned pin remains in tact. The metal has a dark greenish-brown patina and is worn. The buckle is 35.4mm long, 23.7mm wide, 2.5mm thick and weighs 7.1g. Similar examples are illustrated in Whitehead p's.18 & 19 and are dated to circa 1250 - 1500.

An incomplete cast copper alloy buckle of medieval date. Only a small portion of the outer frame survives which is sub-triangular in plan with a latitudinal groove to serve as a pin rest. The tip of the frame projects into a worn trifoliate design with a large central knop and small flanking knops. The reverse is flat and undecorated. The metal has a dark brownish-green patina and is worn. The buckle is 35.9mm long, 14.2mm wide, 2.7mm thick and weighs 5.3g. An incomplete cast copper alloy buckle plate of probable medieval date. The plate is formed from a single sheet of metal with a slight bend at one end. All sides and edges of the plate are very worn. A single rivet hole is present to one end and the object appears undecorated. The metal has a mid blackish-brown patina and is extremely worn. The plate is 27.7mm long, 11.1mm wide, 1.5mm thick and weighs 1.6g.

A medieval cast copper alloy buckle frame. The frame is single looped and ornate, with two integrally cast right angled projections on the shoulders of the outer edge and a rectangular projection in the centre, grooved for the pin. The strap bar is offset and the lateral edges are waisted in the centre and terminate in moulded triangular 'feet' at the end of the strap bar. The front of the buckle frame is rounded and the reverse is flat. The buckle frame measures 17.77 mm long, 29.8 mm wide, 2.35 mm thick and weighs 3.3 grams. It has a dark green patina.

Copper alloy sheet buckle plate length 20mm, width 27mm, thickness 1mm weight 2.52g. Rectangular plate with three rivet holes. Stamped ring decoration surrounds the holes, further stamped decoration consists of four lines of small triangle on the forwarded and rear edge and two lines on either side. The forward edge has two folded tabs that would hold the buckle, both are truncated. Iron corrosion in the centre of the tabs where the pin would have sat. Date 12th-15th century

An incomplete copper alloy double looped buckle, both loops identical. Each is a wide short oval with the outside edge widened to a rectanglar shape, with tiny short grooves or notches cut into the edge. Corroded to mid/dark brown, pin is missing. Length 38.04mm, Width 32.81mm Thickness 1.96mm, Weight 8.47g. Compare NMS-B2F4CE. A similar example was found unstratified at Winchester (Biddle 1990, no. 1261) and dated on stylistic grounds to the post-medieval period. Whitehead 2003, 63, no 381 also has similarities and is dated by Whitehead to c. 1550-1650.
